Personnel Certification (ECS)
Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS)
The ECS is the personnel certification scheme for the greater electrotechnical industry including fire and security systems. To date, over 60,000 individuals have been certificated under this scheme.
The scheme is of particular importance for firms working on construction sites where access is often restricted to individuals that have been certificated under the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) – or an affiliated scheme such as the ECS.
A critical element in this respect is the need for individuals to undergo a Health and Safety Assessment. Individuals applying for an ECS Card, together with those that are renewing their cards, are required to demonstrate they have the required level of health and safety awareness.
Passing an ECS Health and Safety Assessment is compulsory prior to submitting an application for an ECS card, unless candidates hold recognised health and safety qualifications that exempt them. Paper-based ECS Health and Safety Assessments are run at venues across the country as part of an initiative to promote general health and safety awareness and full details of exemptions are listed on the booking form.
