Systems & Standards - Security
The electronic security systems of primary interest to FSA Members are described briefly below. More detailed information concerning the regulation of, and standards applicable to, the installation of these systems is also provided in the form of individual downloadable documents – simply click on the system title.

Access control systems are designed to control and monitor access into and out of given areas of buildings, premises and locations.
Systems are typically made up of:
- Computer terminals and software
- Master controllers
- Local controllers
- Input/output units
- Various types of information and data readers, along with many different types of door locking and release mechanisms, barriers, and turnstiles.
CCTV systems are primarily used for the purpose of monitoring and recording activities in selected locations. In some cases, sensors are used to activate the system and transmit pictures to a remote location.
Systems are made up of:
- Cameras
- Sensors
- Lighting
- Recording equipment
- Switching equipment
- Control equipment
- Communications equipment and a means of transmitting pictures to a remote monitoring control room.
Intruder and hold-up alarms are designed to alert persons that an unauthorised entry attempt or hold-up is in progress, or in specific applications, automatically call the Police.
Systems are typically made up of:
- Control and indication panels
- Sensors
- Internal and external sounders
- Communication equipment plus a means of transmitting an alarm indication to the Police.
